Tales From The Borderlands; Commence Joy Puke

While the public opinion of the VGX Awards has been less than sensational, it would be silly to say that nothing good came from the event. Big name titles like Destiny and Titanfall gave us new material to ogle at, the announcement of No Man's Sky made many swoon and Ubisoft's Snowdrop Engine strut it's stuff for viewers. One announcement completely stole the show for me. Telltale and Gearbox are collaborating to bring an episodic adventure series set in the Borderlands universe.
Tales From The Borderlands. It's the perfect combination for me really. Two of my favorite developers working within one of my favorite genres, based on one of my favorite franchises. It's as though they met one bright day, sat in a crowded cafe, sipped tea and asked each other "what can we make for Steve." Okay, maybe I'm romanticizing it a bit, but I'll bet I'm close.

Right now, details are still sparse. Announcement trailers have an awfully effective way of leaving us with more questions than answers. If you haven't seen the trailer yet, please do so now. I'm about to get into some spoiler territory.

Here's what we know so far. One of the principle characters is a con artist named Fiona. She and her partner (a dapper gent dressed in what appears to be a Hyperion uniform) are after something dangerous. Whatever it is involves the Atlas corporation, who we understand to have been driven off Pandora by Hyperion. Handsome Jack is also part of the story, but his exact involvement is still a mystery.

Speculation abounds. My favorite theory involves Handsome Jack having uploaded his consciousness to the Hyperion Moon Base. It's not likely, but since I started playing Borderlands 2, I've wanted to take down that damn moon base.

We are likely going to be left speculating for a while. Telltale and Gearbox have a lot on their plates right now. Telltale with the second episode of The Wolf Among Us and the premiere of Season 2 of The Walking Dead, and Gearbox with The Headhunter Packs, Homeworld and their "Top Secret" project. Rest assured, when new details arise, we'll pounce on them like a hungry skag.

eww.
